The One About the Gender Ultrasound

On the Friday before Easter, we had our gender ultrasound.  Ernie really thought it was a girl.  I just knew it was another boy.  For some reason, I always have thought I would have three boys.  Even before I had any kids, it was something I felt.  My feeling was correct.  It's a boy!!  I will admit there was that moment of, "ahh...it's not a girl."  But I really am happy to have another boy.  It will add to our already chaotic and loud household, but I can avoid all the teenage daughter drama.  I remember the fights my Mom and I had when I was in high school, and I still feel awful for putting my Mom through that.  And I was probably easy compared to many teenage girls.
Everything looked really good, and baby was healthy.   Baby was estimated at 9 ozs right now, in the 48th percentile for weight.  I can't remember exactly where the other boys were at this gestational age, but I was thinking that Asher for sure was already measuring big.  Things could change, but I am holding hope that this might not be a 9-pound baby.  :)  Even a 8 1/2 lb baby would be small after Asher.  We'll have another ultrasound around 30 weeks, so we'll see how baby measures at that point.  When I get nervous about big babies, I think of my friend Candis who had a 10-lb baby with NO DRUGS!  She is my hero!
We had a hard time getting a picture of baby's face.  He had his arms up in front of his face the entire time.  Our ultrasound tech joked that he was shy.  He definitely moved a lot though, which didn't surprise me at all.  All of my boys have been very active.

The best face-shot we could get

All curled up with his knees tucked in.  I think he looks like he is on his knees praying.  He can hear now, and is probably praying for his life after he comes out and his big brothers get their hands on him.

The One About Kindergarten Roundup

Gavin had Kindergarten Roundup last week.  He hasn't been really excited when we talk about starting school.  Gavin is always very nervous with new situations until he has a chance to feel comfortable.  He gets this from me.  Ernie could care less walking into a new situation, but I am very cautious and like to know exactly what I am walking into.  I tried to prepare him as best I could, but he was still very nervous for Roundup.  On Wednesday, I took off the afternoon from work and picked Gavin up early from daycare.

His face says it all.  :)  When we go to the classroom, I had to practically push him through the door.  He was scared, and hung onto my arm for dear life.  Mrs. Petsche has been the Kindergarten teacher at Ewing for 21 years.  She is wonderful, and I was so excited that Gavin would have her next year.  I knew she would make him feel comfortable right away.  Sadly, Mrs. Petsche has decided that this year is her last.  She is retiring in May.  I am so disappointed.  Now we have no idea who Gavin's teacher will be.  I think there will be around 12 kids in his class, which for Ewing is a good-size class.  There is only one girl in that group, but she goes to Lisa's with many of them so she is used to being the only girl.  From Lisa's daycare, there are four of them going together, so that will help Gavin.  As tall as Gavin is, he is not the tallest boy.  There are about 3 of the boys who are really tall for their age.
I still can't believe we are at that point of starting school.  It makes me sad to think that he will have this entire school-life that I won't be a part of.  I know he will love it once he gets comfortable.  He is especially excited for art class.  Gavin is so artistic, which definitely comes from his Daddy.  I cannot even draw a stick person.  I can't wait for him to start reading.  He knows all his letters, except gets R and K confused.  He also knows many of his letter sounds, so he is going to do so well in Reading Mastery.  I am excited for him.  It's so cute, because we have worked on letters and sounds, and Asher sits by and soaks it all in.  So when I write a letter down, Asher will try to make the sounds like we practice..."ba ba B"  Of course, he might be looking at a letter T, but he repeats the sound before he names the letter.  He has learned so much from Gavin, the good and the bad.
He is such an angel when he is sleeping...and then he wakes up.  :)

The One About Easter 2012

The boys have been counting down the days until the Ewing Easter Egg Hunt.  Here are some pictures:

Easter morning was also fun.  The boys were convinced they were going to get up in the middle of the night and get a peek at the Easter Bunny.  No such luck.

The One About the House (4.7.12)

The front porch and sidewalk are poured and stamped.  It looks wonderful.

The flooring guys got the wood and vinyl down.

Bill got all the vanities installed and framed in the master bathtub.

Next week the siding company will come in to start with the back deck and siding.  The flooring gus will finish up the carpet, and Bill is starting on shelving in the closets.  Getting closer....
